Weather Parameters:
We will advise all participants to abort their participation in this parade if conditions appropriate to their
vessel size and/or the operator’s skills and experience dictate. Notwithstanding this, we will consider
canceling the parade in the event of a small craft advisory on the lower Chesapeake Bay, but will look at
the conditions specific to the waterway we will be traversing. We will cancel the event or change the
start time if there is an imminent threat of thunderstorms or some other unfavorable, but not
necessarily hazardous conditions. In any case where we cancel, we would look at rescheduling on a new
date.
Safety Plan:
We will encourage all participants to boat safely and follow navigational rules. If anyone is seen acting
in an unsafe or unlawful way, they will be hailed on the VHF radio to correct their actions and if that
does not work, the U.S. Coast Guard and/or local marine police will be notified of the behavior. We will
have a minimum of six experienced and responsible boaters who will be dispersed throughout the
parade and have volunteered to be safety patrol. They will watch out for unsafe conduct by any boaters
and if they observe same, they will call them on it. The morning of the event, we will contact the Virginia
Pilots Association to determine if any transits are scheduled in that area at or near the time of the
parade.
